STEM at Seaford Secondary College
The 3.5 million dollar STEM Building Works started March of 2018, and will continue for the majority of the year. The upgraded spaces are designed to improve the STEM learning opportunities for all students, and to help them build essential skills and knowledge for STEM based careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The 2 areas being renovated for the first stage of the project includes.
1. A state of the art Senior Science upgrade for Chemistry, Physics, Biology and general sciences.
2. The Middle School Maker Space, include a digital maker space, a collaborative work environment, a general purpose maker space and an innovative video conferencing and creation room.
It is anticipated that these works will be completed midway through term 3, at which time renovations will begin in the 2 Middle School science laboratories.
A team of teachers are also working to continuously improve the curriculum to include more STEM learning opportunities and interdisciplinary links across all of the different subject areas, as well as designing new STEM based subjects to best utilise the new learning spaces. All teachers, particularly those who teach in the areas of Science, Technology and Mathematics are also participating in various professional learning activities further increase skills and abilities with STEM and 21st Century learning.
